LTPP Contest 2011

ASCE/LTPP International Data Analysis contest
“A New Year an Opportunity for Change”

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Long Term Pavement Performance program (LTPP) have focused through the years on the collection of research quality data for use by researchers all over the world to answer the question “Why do some pavements perform better than others?” The American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE)/LTPP International Data Analysis contest has been one of the many tools available for everyone to try to answer this question. The contest has been one of the activities created by the LTPP program to focus the use of this data by the international highway community. Many great storylines can be written about the success of this endeavor over the years. It’s very impressive what 10 years has produced!
In an effort to improve on an already successful tool, ASCE and FHWA will utilize the year 2011 to go back and re-assess the contest and work to make the contest even better, so as the world changes, so must we. We have recognized through the years that we could improve the contest; we have received through the years a great number of wonderful suggestions from many people on how to improve many aspects of the contest. Therefore, ASCE and LTPP will not conduct a 2011 contest, but will focus efforts this year to improve the contest and make it even better and launch a renewed contest in 2012.
As usual, we will need help from each and every one of you. This is the time for your feedback. Please feel free to express your concerns and ideas to us via email. We are already working hard to address all concerns and issues and taking a closer look at the contest.
